What the world needs now is Marty McGruff: The Crime Dog!
Every night I sit down to watch my programs, Wheel of Fortune & Jeopardy. It is a dream of mine to be a contestant on The Wheel, but that is another story. Anyway, I love me some Alex Trebek! He is one fine Canadian Export. And, the other night the Final Jeopardy Clue was, ““Jack Keil’s team created this animal character rolled out in 1980, the year of the USA’s highest recorded murder rate”. One of the contestants was roasted on the internet for not knowing the answer. I knew the answer and I screamed at the TV from my couch, “Who is Marty McGruff?”
This got me thinking that about the Corona Virus and COVID-19 and the grip it has on the entire world. There is so much messaging on the importance of social distancing, washing our hands and taking all the extra precautions to stop the spread of this disease. Yet people are not following guidelines and paying attention to what world leaders and healthcare workers are asking us to do.
In a world held hostage by something we can’t see maybe a mascot for hygiene could help spread a positive message. If McGruff fought crime and Smokey the Bear fought fires, why couldn’t there be a mascot to fight germs? Perhaps, that mascot is Mr. Clean? Although, I think we need something fresh!
Even Remedy Tree has its own mascot: Digger the Beagle. What better mascot than that sweet face to represent the brand. Remedy Tree’s favorite non-profit is Running for Rescues and often runs sales to donate proceeds to their cause. If we have a mascot to support the causes we care about, what better cause than hygiene prevention to keep people healthy.
So, without further ado please join me in introducing to the world: SUDDS! Sudds is a soap mascot created to help everyone understand that individual actions can help flatten the curve and keep us all healthy.
We know that washing your hands WILL help, therefore, Sudds’ motto is “Our future is in your hands!” Pick your favorite twenty second song (The Alphabet, Jolene by Dolly Parton or I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor) and while singing and washing your hands please know you are doing your part to keep us all safe.
